#12 on the App Store. Built on Bubble! 🎮🕹️🏆

Civic Duty launched this week!

I really pushed Bubble with this one to see how far I could take speed, animation, sound design and depth of experience.

A retro 2D role-playing adventure with 10 increasingly challenging levels, over an hour of gameplay, a unique narrative, and multiple possible outcomes.

A few notes on the build:

  • Single-page app

  • Database-driven levels, so it’s basically infinitely scalable

  • Option set front-end asset delivery keeps everything snappy

  • Backend workflows handle points and game logic, keeping the front end light

  • OpenAI powered character narratives based on your unique gameplay

  • Zero login, but makes use of temporary users to save scores

  • All animations are native Bubble

As an aside, I’ve now spent tens of millions of tokens using Claude Code and use it almost exclusively for my day job — and yet I still turned to Bubble for this project.

The level of control and ability to iterate and get the tiny details right with a visual editor like Bubble is still unmatched in my opinion. And the full-stack “it just works” nature of going from building to publishing on the App Store with just a few clicks is pretty incredible.

As someone with a product design background, it’s also genuinely more fun to build this way, and has given me a lot of joy — an often overlooked metric in this new age of semi-dystopian agent prompting.

Shout out @josh and @emmanuel for empowering anyone to bring almost anything to life and publish it without code. The ceiling is crazy high with Bubble — just bring your imagination.

Live now on the App Store, and currently #12 in paid role-playing games, which is crazy!

Enjoy!

CIVIC DUTY 95

@pauljamess great release!!! This is the best game experience built on Bubble I’ve seen yet.

I encourage everyone to try it to see what’s possible. I learned a lot just from the play through

Congrats @pauljamess! :+1:

If you’re willing to share, I’d be curious to know how you generated the assets as well as how they’re stored. Are you using Bubble storage? Also, are you using any type of game or animation engine?

:slightly_smiling_face:

EDIT

Just noticed this. Truly impressive!

Would still love to know what format most of the image assets are - SVG, webp, jpg, png?

Would love for you to write more in-depth about this.
