Anyone Know Why This Happens?

Occasionally, when I load my app, it prompts me to translate it from French to English.

I don’t know French, and I don’t have any French on my site.

I had originally thought maybe it had to do with a plugin I had tried? But I wasn’t able to narrow it down to any of the few I currently use.

This drives me crazy trying to understand why this happens. I have looked into several ideas I had that might cause this, but I can’t come up with a solution.

It will not do it for a while, then it will do it every time for a while. I have optimized my app, etc, but it doesn’t clear up the problem.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why this may be happening?

Have you added any strings to the french translation in Settings-Languages? Maybe Bubble interprets that as French being an “active” language?

Thank you for the response.

I’ll review those settings…but I haven’t made any changes to that section.

It’s just a local app, so there wasn’t a need to change the language from the default English.

Just a guess from my side  could be a bug of course!

We’re talking about a web app? So you haven’t added any “Supported languages” in the native mobile settings?

Yes, it’s a web app.

I haven’t done anything with the supported languages.

I have also noticed since I asked the question…

it seems I’ve narrowed it down to just a couple of demo users, which I hadn’t considered could be causing this.

I have 10 demo users with fake emails like bob@email.com, and then just a demo password like 123456.

Since I posted the question, it seems to only give me the translation notice on a couple of these demo users when I ‘run as’ one of them. When I run with the other users, it doesn’t give me the translation notice. Seems odd for some reason.

Added: Ok, I guess that only doing it for a couple of users isn’t correct. It does it for all the users, but randomly. It will sometimes show it and sometimes it won’t. Very perplexing.

Added also: Maybe when I put the app live, it won’t do this. Not sure. I’ve been trying to fix some of the bugs I’ve noticed before putting it live, so I wouldn’t have problems like this.

One more add : The reason I was wondering about a plugin is because if a plugin has some language in it that is French, I’m wondering if Bubble reads that as something that needs to be translated? I don’t know enough about building Bubble plugins, etc, to know. But that was one of my original thinking points on this. I may be way off on that thinking and have no idea what I’m talking about.

As a follow-up, I did have a lengthy conversation with AI AGAIN.

It is saying it thinks the main culprit is an image. I did create a few images with AI. But, it is saying that if there is any text whatsoever on an image, it is possible the browser could interpret it as French and offer a translation.

A couple of the images I created with AI do have text, so I’ll look at those.

I’ll keep looking into tracking this down and give an update once I figure it out. This problem has been causing me a lot of frustration.

A little follow-up to anyone interested:

One of my AI images has the word ‘coupons’

‘Coupons’ comes from the French word ‘coupons’:

  • French Connection: The word “coupon” is borrowed directly from the French word “coupon”

So, apparently, having the word ‘coupons’ on an AI image is triggering the translation pop-up.

Thank you to the French for that word.

Hopefully, this solves the problem.

I guess the moral of the story is to watch the text that is put on your AI images

Does the browser prompt you or the app itself?

The browser.

I don’t think the app has that capability to prompt?

I always wondered why those translation prompts came up on websites even though I know the site only in English.

Yes, the browsers use an OCR reader that reads the text on images also.

Something new I also learned

Hey Petter, I have an unrelated issue that I would love your help with if you could spare some time. I just created a forum post where I need help consolidating 2 different plugin data types into a link data type to represent data as a line graph.

If you could help me out I’d really appreciate it. Sorry if this isn’t a professional way of trying to get your attention I’m just under time constraints.

Here is the link to my forum post Urgent Help - Create Line Graph Using 2

That’s wild :joy:
