Best ways to deal with big images

What are some smart ways to deal with big image sizes? What are the impacts of saving as smaller size ahead of time vs. displaying a smaller image on load using imgix?

I’d like to understand this well since I’m dealing with a lot of different use cases related to images, namely:

  • Some loaded by the admin, some loaded by end users.
  • At times we use the images only in 1 place (with a particular size and shape), other times we use them in many places with different shapes and different sizes

I’m making my images smaller ahead of time and it seems to be making a big difference.
