Built a maritime freelance platform (16 months solo)

I’m a deep-sea Captain and I’ve spent the last 16 months building onehournotice.com on Bubble. It’s a niche marketplace for maritime experts.

Technical setup:

  • Stripe (separate charges + manual transfers).

  • Custom rank verification logic.

  • Solo development alongside my seafaring career.

The platform is live and I’ve started onboarding the first users. 16 months is a long time for a solo run, and I’m reaching the point where I might need a professional hand to scale or optimize the technical side.

Looking for:

  • Feedback on the flow and logic.

  • Potential connections with experienced Bubblers who understand complex marketplaces.

Check it out. Any direct feedback is welcome.

16 months is a dedication, so a big congrats on the work!

I have friends who work on various ships / expeditions, so I know this is a great niche. I did a quick search and couldn’t find any stand-out platforms in the space. Looked at e.g. SeaCareer.com.

Feedback on UI/UX:

  • You’ve opted for a colour-scheme that pops. Would be interesting to get feedback on whether that works for this industry.
  • Top nav - seems like all those pages should be moved elsewhere.
    • ‘Journal’ should be part of ‘Settings’ or ‘Account’ menu upon login. Leaving it on the home page gives an impression that the app is WIP.
    • ‘The Code’ and ‘Mission’, I would move to an ‘About’ page.
    • 'Start earning now’ and ‘Hire an expert’ - those are key CTAs, so I would move them to top nav. Also, the pages they render should be information on how your platform helps with those things. These are your conversion-pages. Then upon sign-up, they can start.
  • Search
    • No need to mention ‘Algolia’; doesn’t benefit the user to know technical details.
  • Cards - the UI throws me off a little
    • Not sure what the ‘Argonaut26’ tags are.
    • To make it more professional, display the proper names, e.g. ‘John M.’. Usernames make it look like a social media platform.

This is just my quick 5-min check. Again, I think the niche is great and 16 months is admirable. The app is early stage and could benefit from researching the competitive landscape to figure colour schemes, UI/UX best examples, and then improve on that. Each industry has its own direction.
