Can anyone help me how do I connect my existing users to their google accounts.

If a user is already logged in with email and password you can use the social login action. Once the user completes the flow the social account will be added.
There are more details in the documentation link above.

When I try to use login/signup with google for an existing user, I get an error mentioning email already is in use.
From the link I posted above, first paragraph:
If another user exists in the database with the email provided by the external service, the action will fail and a message will be shown to the user.
