[Feature enhancement] Improvements to mobile maps element

Hi everyone,

Nick from the Mobile team here. I’m excited to announce some updates to the maps element based on your feedback. These are just the start, so please keep the feedback coming!

We’ve also loved seeing your submissions to the Bubble Summer Mobile App Challenge, and we’re looking forward to even more now that our map element has improved. Don’t forget to submit by August 18th!

New features

Show device’s current location

You can now show the device’s current location as the expected blue dot on the map element. This setting is available in the map property editor and is default off for backwards compatibility.

Note: The device needs to have location services turned on for this feature to work.

“When map marker is tapped” workflow event

This workflow event is already available for web apps, but is now compatible with mobile apps. It allows you to trigger a workflow when a map marker is tapped.

Bug fixes

• Set center and zoom manually: This setting allows you to focus the map on a specific area (for example, the current device’s location).

• Custom map markers (ongoing): Custom map markers are demonstrating flaky behavior in live versions. We’ve shipped some fixes for certain edge cases and are looking into the root cause for users that are still experiencing issues.

Dynamic Map markers are not working at all for me, BubbleGo + ios app + apk app… just as an fyi its not solely the live version thats acting up

Also there is already a “When map marker is tapped” workflow event, wondering why this has been added as a “New” feature? Has it been changed in anyway? @nick.carroll

Still trying to figure out the map marker issue - its potentially a bug with the map library and new react native architecture.

As for the when map marker is tapped workflow event, yes thats been out for a little. This post was a bit delayed as far as an announcement goes

Map is not displaying on android app (uploaded to google play).

Works fine on bubble go and the webapp.

@nick.carroll A question: i need to keep tracking location when the app is minimized or running or background. Can we do this on android?

@nick.carroll , why don’t we have this feature on the web app? You cannot use a list of markers and a blue dot (current location) at the same time.

@nick.carroll Is there a way to change the map type dynamically? So maybe an element action which changes the map type? If not could this be added as a feature?
