I have a program that allows users to post their images. They show us in a vertical column, I want that landscape images have smaller cells so there is no blank spaces. Is that possible?

This is not currently possible using a repeating group, but may be possible with a custom plugin. Many people have expressed interest in this, so if you need it, perhaps there is a developer who would be able to build this for the community. (For example, masonry.js is a javascript cascading grid layout similar to Pinterest)
