Hi everyone,
This is the April community update. You can read last month’s update here.
If you read these updates consistently, you know I’ve been spending a lot of time talking about the future of AI app generation, both from an industry standpoint and how we’re thinking about it at Bubble.
Last week, we released a video that describes our vision for AI, which takes that a step further. I’ve long had the opinion that AI isn’t going to replace no-code; instead, the two are going to supercharge each other. You can watch the video and read more of my thoughts on the forum here.
If you have any questions about where Bubble is headed, please join Emmanuel and me on April 3 for our AMA on Bubble’s plans and vision for AI-powered visual development. Register here (if you can’t make it, you can register anyway, and we’ll send you the recording). You can also submit questions ahead of time here. Super excited to talk with you all!
Before the rest of the update, a note on platform reliability: Some users have experienced issues with app uptime recently due to long queries impacting our main databases. We’re nearly finished migrating off an outdated procedure language that will allow us to automatically cancel those queries and preserve performance. We’re targeting end of April to be finished with that work. In the meantime, we’re handling each long query as it comes up, and we’re confident that recent changes we made will improve stability further in the interim. I shared a longer update on the forum yesterday, which you can read here.
Let’s get into the updates.
Everything that launched last month
The new workflow tab will become the default experience for all users later this month. We had previously announced that this change would go into effect April 7. Based on community feedback, we’ve decided to push that launch back to add more features around conditional statements. Keep an eye out for more updates coming shortly. Over the past few weeks, we’ve shipped several feature changes to improve navigation, including zoom controls on the canvas, better searches for actions, grid view to show you all workflows, and a UI change that makes it clearer when a workflow is enabled. We’re also improving routing, so your tabs won’t reset when you switch between the backend workflow, design, and workflow tabs.
Between January and March of this year, we’ve tripled the monthly number of users we’re onboarding to the mobile beta. We also announced that we’re opening mobile up to everyone by June (read that roadmap post here if you missed it)!
We also kicked off the mobile plugin alpha. As of yesterday, every alpha tester has officially built their first plugin. Congrats to the first agencies to publish their plugins in the marketplace:
Zeroqode, Minimum Studio, Codi Technologies, No-Code Venture, Cranford Tech, and Idea Link. Congrats as well to all of our alpha testers, and thank you for helping us shape the mobile plugin editor and ecosystem.
Exciting news: Bubble’s AI app generator now generates dynamic images. This is a big upgrade to output quality, and the team continues to work behind the scenes on monitoring and improving output quality even further.
To help users who generate an app understand what to do once it’s created, we’ve trained our help bot to provide step-by-step instructions and assistance as you build. Try it out by clicking the chat icon in the bottom right corner of your editor of any app you’ve generated with Bubble AI.
The app interface manager, which simplifies adding, organizing, and managing web and mobile views, is now available to everyone. Thank you to our Bubble Ambassadors and beta testers who helped us test this new experience. Read more on the forum here. We also hear your feedback since the release and the team is working on some updates. More to come!
The brand-new settings tab is out, which will make it easier to navigate, especially as more users get access to mobile.
Starting today, we are extending the Bubble Developer Certification to be valid for two years instead of one. If you’re already a certified dev, you should have received an email with more info.
We launched the Bubble app gallery! This is a living hub of real-life Bubble apps, and there are some really impressive use cases. Make sure to give it a look. If you have an app you’d like to have featured, you can submit it at the top of the page.
Last but not least, our support bot (which you can access from the bottom right corner of any page on our website) now has multi-language support. Ask questions and receive support in French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, or Portuguese. This is a big step forward in how we show up for our global community, and I’m proud of the work we’ve done here.
What we’re working on
-
Mobile: We’re entering the final stages of internal testing for the mobile debugger, and then we’ll be rolling it out to all beta users. The team is also aiming to complete work this month on the app switcher, which lets you easily switch between a mobile app and web app in your account. We’re also working hard on a number of ongoing improvements, including improving the deploy process for Android, mobile device testing for Android and iOS, and incorporating feedback from bug reports and the plugin alpha ahead of our June launch.
-
API streaming: We’re aiming to have this feature ready before the end of the month. It has been highly requested, so I’m excited for it to go live. One plus to building API streaming natively is that it’s much more secure: You don’t have to expose your API keys to a third-party service. The other plus is that you can bring cutting-edge UX to AI chatbots and other text-streaming use cases like real-time dashboards.
-
AI generation: The team is continuing to make improvements to generation outputs on the front- and backend of your apps. That means bringing more styling consistency across your app’s pages and generating apps with more modern branding and coloring. Like I mentioned above, make sure to check out our AI vision video. I’m really excited about the road ahead.
-
Changelog: In early April, we’re updating the retention window for all plans that have access to changelog.
-
Growth: 14 days (previously, we were only supporting 7 days)
-
Team: 20 days
-
Enterprise (Standard): 30 days
-
Enterprise (Dedicated): 1 year
-
Agency accounts: 20 days
For most plans, this should give you a lot more flexibility to see and revert changes.
-
-
Sunsetting “interactive lessons”: Next week, we’ll be sunsetting interactive lessons (guided, in-editor walk-throughs that were designed to help new users learn the product). These require a decent amount of engineering work to maintain every time new features are added, and they don’t get as much engagement as other educational content, so this will free up some valuable resources. We still have a ton of guided walk-throughs, like connecting to OpenAI, setting up a masonry grid, and understanding mobile views, that are great for users of all experience levels. If you have requests for more, let us know in the comments.
