Native mobile app only shows updated data after a full restart (all views, latest dev build)

Hi all,

I’m building a native mobile app and data changes don’t appear on the device until I fully restart the app.

What happens

  • It affects every view: new bookings, payment status, and user personal information changes all stay stale until a restart.
  • It persists on a fresh dev build, so it isn’t an outdated build.
  • The server data is correct. Completed payments show as paid in the database, and my backend logs confirm it.

What I’ve checked

  • Elements are bound directly to database searches or the Booking itself, with no custom states.
  • No issues are flagged in the editor.
  • Shake to reload fixes it
  • Web preview updates live

Questions

  1. Is there a known issue with live updates on native mobile?
  2. Could something stop views refreshing, such as views kept alive behind the tab bar?
  3. What’s the recommended way to force a refresh on key views without hurting performance?

Hi Nath, since shake-to-reload fixes it and web preview updates live, the native views are most likely being kept alive (tab views or reusables that load once) and not re-running their searches when you come back to them. A few things that usually help:

  • On the key screens (bookings, payment status), add a “page/view is shown” or “tab selected” event that resets the relevant groups, or briefly sets a “refresh” state, so the searches run again.
  • For payment status in particular, have the backend workflow that marks a booking paid also update a field on the current User (for example a last_updated timestamp). Then bind a condition to that field, so the view has a changed value to react to.
  • Check whether those elements sit inside a view that’s preloaded behind the tab bar. If they do, show/hide the group on navigation to force a fresh load without reloading the whole app.

I’m curious whether switching to another tab and coming back ever shows the updated data, or if only a full reload fixes it. Since the web preview updates correctly, that difference might help narrow down whether it’s related to views staying alive in the native app or something more general with data refresh.
