Not Live Bubbling with @keith: Friday night WATCH PARTY! Bubble WU Optimization Webinar Replay

I hadn’t watched the replay of Bubble’s recent pricing/WU-optimization webinar, so I just recorded my commentary as I watched it. If you’ve been meaning to do the same, watching my version of the replay might be more entertaining and enlightening. Or, it might be more boring. Depends on how much you like watching my videos. Anyway, come and party and post your comments here in the thread. Here’s my video (on Loom - I’ll get it on YT soon, but now it’s time for cocktails):

I’m a few minutes ahead of you, @tylerboodman. Spoiler alert: Keith tells you to not do stupid things in just a bit.

@keith, great stuff so far, but I think you need a sidekick. I nominate @tylerboodman. Oh, and my girlfriend is sitting this video out. She threatened to leave me for real this time if I made her watch it with me. True story.

Wait, I thought Keith said polling is good, he’s a huge fan of it, and we should do it as much as possible. I’m confused.

Ha haaa!

@ 35:30, I mean I guess it depends on each app, but how TF would that list be “prepped” to be displayed? That means keeping that list ready to go with recent Communications or something… that doesn’t take WUs?

I finally got a Bubble t-shirt, @keith. There is no planet on which I should have one and you don’t. To make matters worse (for you, that is), I also got a hat, socks, and stickers. They really need to start spreading the love with their swag.

I am at 47:53, I need to step away for a little bit brb

So far yes I agree, why blame us with inefficiencies if that’s just how we are supposed to do it…

Nice run through @keith, made for more of an entertaining watch with running commentary.

Yeah not being able to run a specific Do a search for query to return only specific field data required really needs to be addressed from Bubble, rather than forcing workarounds. Its the kind of thing that should be on their roadmap and not handed down to the end user to figure out. It wouldn’t surprise me if it followed up with “Next week’s experiment will involve creating 50 new custom privacy roles with selective field data to return our optimized queries”.

Thanks Keith! Super helpful. I hope you don’t really leave!!

Re: Google Analytics: isn’t it true that many users, perhaps even half, have ad blockers set by default on their computer which inhibits GA? In other words, if we rely only on GA we can expect half our traffic to be uncounted?

One can’t really know the percentage of users who might use tracking blockers or browsers that are untrackable by Google, @greg18, but I certainly don’t think it’s anywhere near 50%. Though it is possible to miss events for any number of reasons. Note also that in high-volume sites, GA data will be sampled anyway. It’s not something I’d be particularly worried about.

Web analytics isn’t just about counting pageviews (and in fact this is no longer the primary metric in GA4 – it’s “engaged sessions”), but also the relative performance of some page(s) with respect to some other page(s), building audiences for advertising, understanding acquisition data, etc.

Of course, Bubble knows page load activity from the logs, but doesn’t at present allow us to easily see that data in a tabular form. (That would be a nice enhancement, certainly.)
