Onboarding flow/ Product Tour

I am starting to get traction with my budgeting app.

I want to know if anyone ever created one of those onboarding flows where there is a spot light on certain features as the user is given a tour around the app. Hopefully that makes sense, I’m not sure if there is a technical term for it.

My other question is, what onboarding flow have you seen works personally for you.

My goal is to not have much friction from the user signing up to using the product.

Currently my user signs up and go directly to the dashboard. The payment flow doesn’t come into place until the user choices to connect bank accounts.

I want to add in a onboarding flow that makes sense and get the user involved. So I would love to see what other people have done.

I’ve found different terms for this: product tour, onboarding tour, product walkthrough…

There are a bunch of paid plugins for this. Some examples:
