[Product Enhancement] Updated Toolbar

Introducing the updated toolbar

Hi everyone! I’m Alex on our product management team. We’re excited to share our latest update to the Bubble toolbar. This change is part of our ongoing efforts to make the editor more efficient and intuitive.

Building on work we recently did to clean up the left-hand navigation, the new toolbar improves navigation, organizes critical tools, and aligns better with modern design standards. These updates simplify your editing experience while also paving the way for future projects we can’t wait to share.

What’s changing?

The updates to the toolbar are in service of cleanliness and reorganization, ensuring all critical features remain easily accessible while preparing the editor for what’s next. Here’s what’s new:

  • New nested menus: Actions like Edit, Arrange, View, and Grids & Guides are now consolidated into a structured menu for easier access.
  • Bubble icon fix: Previously, accidentally clicking the Bubble icon could take you out of the editor. This has been resolved by moving the exit action under a dropdown menu, requiring a more intentional two clicks.
  • Pages and reusables dropdown: You can continue to manage pages and reusable elements. Stay tuned for updates to this experience coming soon.
  • Enhanced Preview and Deploy: Preview actions remain accessible, with improvements based on user feedback.

In addition, key features you rely on, like the element search, component library, version control, undo/redo, and issue checker, remain available and better organized in the new toolbar.

Thank you for your feedback

We want to thank the Bubble Ambassadors and early testers who helped us refine this update. Based on your feedback, we’ve already made some changes, including:

  • Reinstating the element search functionality.
  • Stress-testing the toolbar to ensure it meets the needs of diverse user workflows.

Your input has been invaluable in making the toolbar update a better experience for everyone.

Rollout details

Starting today, the toolbar update will roll out to 40% of users, chosen at random. If you don’t see it immediately, hang tight‌ — ‌it will be coming your way soon!

For more information, check out the Bubble manual.

We’d love to hear your thoughts once you’ve had a chance to try it out in this forum post thread!

Nice! Looks clean!

:+1:

Assuming the contextual (right click) menu remains, will it be changing to match the style and layout of the new “Edit” menu (now found under the Bubble icon)?

Great moves in the right direction. Glad you kept the element selector (sorry for making a fuss, but it paid off). One HUGE thing that’s a super light lift: a click on the new BWF icon should always open it up with the folder list exposed; navigation away from it and back should always go back to the last folder that was active. Anyone who’s working on any serious app is dealing with hundreds of BWFs and the only way to keep things sane are folders. So those should be exposed and persistent by default.

Also nice to hear of a 40% staged rollout process. Smart to be a little bit cautious.

Appreciated. :+1:t2:

Great work, great enhancement we’ll surely adapt to the changes

Thanks for the update.

To be honest, I definitely disagree with the Nested submenus, especially for Edit. The productivity will decrease for users who use the toolbar menu to access all the editor features in one place, even though there are also some nested submenus there. Now you’ll need to 2 to 3 actions instead of 1-2.

The dropdowns for pages and elements look nicer but I will wait for the updated experience.

Overall somewhat have a mixed feeling about this one.

Niceee!!!

better and clenaer :boom:

i like it - but the shortcuts here are not working correctly when i use my brave browser…

It Zooms the complete page and not just the inner element.
(It is a behaivour i prefer - cause sometime i need everything smaller) but the UI functionality makes no sense - also befor we have been able to make an input for example 87% so i always had it perfectly sized - i see no reason why this is missing now.

Great changes ! I just regret that the component names are much shorter than before and truncated in the App Manager section.

Is this live for you all?

@Bennn it rolled out to 40% of users this week

How about the version control?

Hey @alex.bolanos, I don’t quite understand the behavior of the Depoy button. Sometimes it’s there and sometimes it isn’t. When it’s there, I can refresh the page and it’ll disappear.

I could presume that it has a condition on whether changes can be deployed or not.

Let’s say: after refresh it disappeared because there weren’t any changes saved on a new page load, and once you’ve made a modification inside the editor it appeared since a change has happened in the editor.

Hey @alex.bolanos, thanks it is looking great! One small thing. Is it possible to open the Back to my Apps link in a new tab if you middle click or if you right click. Sometimes I want to copy something from another app so need both editors open.
