Search box behavior confusion

Hello,

I have the following list of things I’m searching for. IF I search for 98A09 for example, I get no results in the fields that have the hyphens. To find a result I must type starting from the left, such as 0.50.

But if I have text entered with spaces between each block of characters, the search picks up any combination, such as…
0.50
AR
C69
98A08
etc…

Which is what I’m looking for. How do I achieve that?

Thanks,

Hi @gnelson

Quick fix, create another field, and remove the - character (find and replace) and search on that new field (I did this on all my critical research fields).

Hello @JohnMark,

I thought of that, but the results the user would see would be the field without the hyphens. That would be confusing to some. OR si there something I’m missing?

Thanks,
George

Hello George @gnelson

Some kind of warning message to use for your users?
'We have removed all dashes for your convenience for a faster search… '. Obviously, I’m kidding. There is a plugin that takes care of the searches as you search: Search and Autocomplete. Not sure if it will fit.

LOL.

I tried that plugin today but wasn’t able to make it work in the short time I had to work with it. I’ll try again tomorrow.

Thanks for your help.
