Sort by Letter - First Character

Is it possible to sort repeating group text by the first character from A-Z and 0-9? How can this be achieved?

Is it the first character sorting that is the issue (not sure why that is different) or the A-Z and 0-9 ?

Yes it’s the first character sorting I would like to achieve. Id like to have a dropdown where if a user selects A, B, C, then the list will be filtered by only those whose first character begins with those letters.

You can use an Advanced Filter, and truncate the text to the first character.
