Hey! Thanks for reading this. Talking to my fellow bubble nocoders about app/data legality and I’m curious as to which avenue some of you decided to go.
More and more countries are updating their privacy and data possession laws for their citizens (corporate and regular), the euro zone (most of it) adopted the GPDRegulation, Australia has some serious and strict laws too and Canada is currently passing a bill (C-27) which will make the company accountable for any databreach AND with an obligation to host canadian data, on canadian soil.
Taking for example our project, we’ll be hosting tons of private data from canadian citizens. Considering the astronomical pricing for file hosting at bubble, we already built a solution to host files elsewhere… But our main culprit is the database. The only way to go 100% bubble would be with the dedicated plan, which unfortunately, is out of our league price wise.
I’m concerned about small organizations like us and for devs that will be asked to comply to new regulations across the globe and move their databases at some point because they’re currently all hosted in the usa. Yes, DBaaS(ervices) exists… Yes, Xano is great, (actually it’s quite awesome when you get the hang of it) but gosh… Accepting the fact and having to host your data elsewhere, having to create new security measures (api security, probably different login method, etc), adapting the workflows, saying goodbye to direct implementation of bubble’s database and adapting our user agreements… (and so on)… is a pita.
So, I’m curious… Have you checked if and/or are you/will you be affected by legislation changes in your country regarding data privacy (where it needs to be hosted, ownership, accountability, etc.) and what solution will you be using?
