Right now these can’t be renamed. If you are using multiples with conditionals on when they should appear, it can get confusing without the ability to rename to things that make sense.
You also can’t re-order them, and if you have multiple trailing or leading icons they show up in reverse order (the first in the list appears after the last in the list).
Also you can’t change the icon color inside of a style (which is annoying for setting up light / dark mode).
Not sure I completely understand your post…
but, I’m wondering if you just use a group and give it all the appearances of a button, if that would help?
I know it would at least help with the light and dark modes.

So this issue is with the Top App Bar and the provided leading / trailing icons.
I’m just living with it right now, but I don’t think it’s something that should require workarounds.
