Tutorial: How to set up Discourse on Digital Ocean

I figured I’d share a tutorial video I put together for anyone here who would like to set up their own forum using Discourse for an app they are working on, hosted on Digital Ocean.

Thanks for the tutorial. I would go for whichever server capacity is necessary, but it looks like the discourse forum recommends the $5 plan: https://meta.discourse.org/t/how-to-install-discourse-on-5-droplet-on-digitalocean/84172/60

You mentioned you don’t recommend that. Do you have experience of it crashing on this plan? I guess I could one could try setting up on the $5 plan and upgrading capacity is necessary.

@mattb I think I remember reading a while back that it could cause some issues. But then again this was a while ago. No harm in testing to see if that plan would work.

HI @lantzgould thanks for this tutorial! I was wondering if you had any tips for setting up the forum with Bubble as a SSO? I’m having some trouble after getting my forum working properly actually connecting it to bubble. Specifically I get this error, and not sure how to get around it. {“statusCode”:400,“body”:{“status”:“MISSING_DATA”,“message”:“Discourse key not set”}}

Is it just me, or is there no tutorial here?

“install discourse digital ocean”. Just search that on google and bam. Also, a $5 droplet on a discourse server is probably not good enough in my opinion.

I’m hoping for more interesting things like connecting bubble login to discourse login, all that kind of stuff.

What do you want setup with it? I can do anything from API to Authentication. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested.
