"App text" not working

I am trying to use the built-in “App text” to display translations:

When the app runs, it shows “no translation” for English and Spanish–even though I have defined both:

I found the issue.

As you can see in the Settings, “Display” has a value of “Spanish” or “English”.

I changed that setting to point to a language code, e.g. “en_us” or “es_mx”.
