Bubble reliability

Why there is a notion that bubble can be used for “simple applications” only? I read 10s of articles and various sources, even talked with few devs and they all said bubble is idea for MVP or simple apps.

If it is true, then there would be not a lucrative career there for becoming a bubble dev or starting a bubble dev agency.

If it is true then we cannot say “Nocode as substitute of coding”.
I personally believe NoCode should be called a fullstack only when it can be used for true complex apps which are being built by traditional coding.

*note: I am not a tech guy so pardon if I missed something.

To put it bluntly, probably because they’re not very good developers.

All of the following are true:

  • you can build complex full products entirely on Bubble
  • you can build simple products entirely on Bubble
  • not all products can be built entirely on Bubble
  • some products shouldn’t be built on Bubble at all
  • many apps use external APIs, just like traditionally coded apps would. The need for an external API alone is not an indicator of a lack of depth in the no-code platform.
  • you need to be a good developer to build a good app
  • Bubble has a way to go in terms of making the platform more desirable for high revenue apps (SLAs are still not a thing, for one)

You’ll notice that virtually all of the above also apply to any traditional development framework.

If this was true, I wouldn’t have any clients. My agency revolves around working on existing apps, and my clients wouldn’t be funding us to develop them for up to $3k a month if they didn’t think they had a realistic chance of success.

Thank you Georgecollier for your revert. The answer is to the point.
Can you list me types of apps which one should not built with bubble and why? (As its mentioned on bulleted points some products shouldn’t be built on bubble)

So truee.

It was after I worked with some pretty great developers and gained experience that I realised this difference. I have also seen, a lot of new developers (with or without own agency) tell the clients this when they want to make quick cash with sub par built application.

Bubble is also moving towards attracting enterprise clients which is possible because they have the infrastructure to support it.

The only thing that pauses me sometimes is the security aspect. Bubble has long way to go.

Since Bubble is not HIPAA compliant yet, any application in the Healthcare Sector which involves handling patient data is not recommended on bubble.

Also bubble is not the fastest. So if speed is your top priority it might not suit you.

Generally easier if you are thinking of an app to say what it is and we can let you know if it’s a good option for Bubble.

The rule of thumb I use is ‘is the app a glorified spreadsheet’ - if yes, it can be built on Bubble. A marketplace is a glorified spreadsheet because everything on it is just interacting with various data (products, reviews, profiles). An app like Canva is not (if it was a spreadsheet, it’d be a bunch of useless numbers and coordinates). Not a perfect analogy, but the best I’ve come up with so far…

As @animisha45 correctly points out, HIPAA compliance is a blocker for some.

A controversial one that others will disagree with me about openly is mobile first apps. I turn away any clients building social networks, dating sites, etc. Bubble’s objectively not great for mobile-first apps that are expected to have a certain kind of feel. You’ll never achieve what the client is looking for so I refer them to Flutterflow agencies. If they don’t have a mobile app, they have no realistic prospect of success so I’m not going to lead them down the road of building an app on Bubble that technically works, but won’t ever be successful. Of course, that might be change with mobile native, which you’ll hear more about at BubbleCon.

Thanks @animisha45 if we talk about career opportunity in India as certified bubble dev what is your openion and what are general payscale if you can give an estimate.

Asking because I noticed yet in India the culture is of building apps with coding.

If you have good skills, the opportunities are good. Attaching an active Job post here.

Don’t forget you’re not limited to jobs in your country. If you’re good, you can get $120/hr doing Bubble.
