I have created the user data type and added a field called name. However, after signing up for the app user name is not getting stored in the app data. What could be the reason?

We would need to narrow down your issue because stated in this way there is an world of possibilities as to why that data is not being pushed to your database 
I assume you are using a sign up form where the user - at some point - fills out his/her name?
Can you specify what workflow(s) you are using to save the data? I imagine that said workflow is originated by an onClick event? Don’t hesitate to share a screen capture so that we understand better.
