Quite the contrary…
…with a Text you’ll have to use filters every time you want to match the value to an option set… which 1. rather defeats the purpose of using an option set (maybe not entirely, but to a point), and 2. just adds extra unnecessary steps every single time you need to refer to an Option.

Well… it doesn’t have to be… but what’s the point of using an Option Set if you’re just going to save things as text values? (there definitely are some use cases for that, but this isn’t one of them as far as I can see).
But as, I said, if it works for you to use texts instead of Option Sets (and it makes sense to you, and you don’t mind the extra complications), then stick with it.
