How to set a custom state

Hello everyone!

I’m with this of the custom states, i don’t know much about it, but I have a page in which I want to set a custom state.
I have a header and in this header I have group focused as a menu option that shows up when the user clicks its profile picture the thing is that I have some menu option in the group focused and what I want this to is that when a user clicks one of this options this create an action to hide a group in a page, so that’s why I decided to use custom states but I don’t know how to make this happens, can anyone help me with to set a state for this action?
