I’ve launched Madlows.co.uk in the last couple of months and it’s going great. However, I’ve noticed when using Chrome on Desktop or Mobile the site is incredibly slow to load - it’s almost as if there’s a large delay for the browser to even connect to the website. Any ideas where I should be looking to fix?
Oh wow, it really is (Chrome, Mac, first load was really slow, following loads are faster).
Do you have many plugins installed? That can contribute to slow page load speed. What about hidden elements?
Do you have any elements hiding on the home page that are set to be visible on page load but have a condition which hides it for most users? You can inverse your conditions so that it’s invisible on page load and visible only with a certain condition so that it’s not downloaded on page load.
Are any of your searches complicated?
What’s this? It’s an empty space but there is something there…

That blank space is filled by an affiliate banner from AWIN - it’s on all pages. Do you have adblocker on?
Searches are complicated, but no more than they need to be I don’t think. The home page is just searching for a list of car listings and pulling Title, Image, Price and BHP.
I do have some conditional formatting on quite a large part of the site, it’s very different on mobile vs desktop - could that be it?
Useless support from Bubble. Have changed domain name provider and still same issue. My homepage has almost nothing on it and a 15 second initial load is poor. Going to take my platform elsewhere.
For what it’s worth, it only took a few seconds for me (in Cape Verde with bad wifi and high ping to Bubble servers) and didn’t feel particularly slow.
Still no help from support other than to read optimisation guide. Noticed site is loading a variety of google doc files when first loading - no idea why but they appear to be javascript files?
I’m convinced it’s something to do with SSL or DNS. I’ve changed domain name provider and didn’t make a difference, even with premium DNS. Likely SSL but not sure support are willing to look at that.
Since this issue started 3 weeks ago, engagement on my site has essentially completely gone. No new listings, no new users, SEO rankings dropping off. My homepage doesn’t have anything technical on it, it’s essentially just a few text boxes.
The support team have been no use as they can’t replicate it, but that doesn’t mean the issue doesn’t exist. I think the issue is with Clouldflare but unable to look at settings on my package.
This is a side project that’s been very well received but I have no funding left to get a developer to help. My remaining budget went on an influencer marketing campaign which costs ££££ and that started, you guessed it, just after this issue started. I have wasted my last resources because of this issue with Bubble.
Unfortunately, I am going to have to close this project entirely, I don’t havee the time or resource to start it again elsewhere.
