Hello! Brand new here and trying to pin down the simplest and least expensive way to build an Instagram-like website with Bubble. I’ve seen templates here and elsewhere but don’t know what they require in the way of skills, tho’ they make it sound easy. “Social Media like Instagram” and a “Clone” one that I now can’t find.
I checked out Building with Bubble and it is too technical for me. Tho’ that is about the budget I have for this little dream of mine…a few hundred dollars.
Hi! I’m still working on mine - soooo close but still hung up on setting up my Stripe and no funds to pay anyone right now so I know how you feel!
Honestly, yes, they do make it sound easy. And whilst it’s definitely easier than learning to code I’m guessing, easy it is not. It’s a very sharp and confusing learning curve, and there is a LOT to learn.
I’ve bought a couple of templates and they’re great at giving you the ‘bones’ if you will, but they’re absolutely not a ‘buy and you can use out of the gate’ type thing. There will still be a massive amount of (confusing) work to do before you beat it into shape. (In my limited experience.)
I actually got to the point where I did try and hire someone on a really small budget. Now, I’m not an idiot, but I fell for the big promises for a small budget line. My own desperation at play I think. They were useless and I ended up out of pocket with not a single thing that I wanted doing actually having been done correctly. Ultimately, it set me back, rather than helping me forward. So please don’t make the same mistake I did. If you do hire someone, hire someone Bubble approved who knows what they’re doing. I did book a couple of hours with @J805 which while not cheap, was worth every penny to help get me back on track. To be clear, using Bubble is a skill and they deserve every penny they charge, it just sucks when you’re on a teensy tiny budget!
If this is something you really want to do, believe in and are passionate about, I would say just dive in. You won’t find an easier way of doing it I don’t think. Hard, yes, but also achievable.
The cheapest way to go is to learn how to build it on your own. The community here is pretty helpful in answering questions here for free. Just make sure to take screenshots or videos to help with your questions so we can assist when possible. Hope to see what you build in the future!
This is all so familiar to me, with other “adventures” I’ve had over the years with bringing online ideas into being. I’ve been much more cautious with this one, from experience. : ) Your posts have been very heartening, tho’, with your wonderful sense of humor. I very much hope you succeed, and soon.
I decided last night to keep working with another approach by greatly paring down and cleaning up a Facebook-like social media software. I have almost two weeks in the refund window to know for sure whether it will work, but it’s looking fairly good so far. And there is an integration for payments so I’m hoping I won’t have the problems you are with Stripe. We’ll see…
This is exactly what brought me to Bubble. I now have a first version of my social network www.kaleat.com
You can take a look and tell me if it’s close to what you’re looking for. I haven’t yet implemented a payment system on it because it’s still useless to me. If you’re interested, contact me to know what we can do together😁
