Hi everyone,

I’m building a website called mirror (https://getmirror.in/). mirror lets you understand exactly where your money is going, and where you’re doing well, and anonymously compare and see how others like you are managing their money.

I’m inviting you to take some time to check out the mirror alpha preview. Even at this stage, I think the website is pretty awesome and delivers the type of financial understanding that early professionals and college students have been craving for a long time. Still, the team and I are continually working to improve it in preparation for its release, and your input is vitally important in helping us get there!

Interesting project. I got a question though, what do you mean when you say you are storing user finance data anonymously?

Thanks for the question @ihsanzainal84 .
I’ll mention the existing flow for the user finance data.

  1. When the user wants to know where their money is going they upload their bank transaction statement as PDF/excel.
  2. We then analyze those reactions and tag each transaction with relevant categories, like eating out, shopping, retail and online shopping, gas, utility bills, transportation, and many other categories.
  3. We then compare your aggregate values of each category with the aggregate values of other mirror users, in your locality, age, and gender group and show you your financial standing with others.

When it comes to storing your transactional data through your bank statement your security is our top priority. We’ve implemented multiple layers of protection:

  1. Your original bank statements are only temporarily accessible to our admin team for transaction categorization
  2. Once categorization is complete, the original statements are automatically deleted from our database
  3. We’re implementing AI/ML solutions to automate this process in the coming months
  4. All comparative insights are processed anonymously
  5. We use industry-standard encryption for data transmission.

At no time your RAW transaction data are visible to any other users, they only see an aggregate value of each category.

So currently there still is a point in your process where someone can view users’ financial data. Hope you get to automating that part soon.

At the moment, Yes. There still is a point in our process where an admin can view users’ financial transactional data. We will be automating it in the coming 2 months.
