Monthly Community Update -- November 2024

Hi everyone,

This is the November community update. You can read the October update here.

We are really excited about everything we announced at BubbleCon, and our focus this month has been iterating and improving on all the great feedback we’ve been receiving. One of the real pleasures of building Bubble is how engaged you all are with what we’re working on, and it makes it very fun to launch things and very easy to gather feedback on next steps.

On to the updates!

Everything we released last month

If you missed any sessions from BubbleCon, they’re all available for free on YouTube here.

We’re inviting more users from the mobile beta waitlist. Invitations go out every other week in the order you signed up. We’re doing this gradually so that the team can tackle bugs and make sure the product is working well as we scale. Here’s what we shipped in October:

  • Native mobile functionality including camera and photo library access, and a new checkbox element

  • The ability to sign in with OAuth or your web app

  • Reusable elements for mobile

Learn more about what to expect from the beta here and join the waitlist here.

The team also shipped a number of updates to the workflow tab based on user feedback from the beta. These include:

  • Automatic alphabetical sorting for the list of workflows

  • Improvements to search results within folders and events

  • UX improvements like auto-expanding and auto-scrolling for easier navigation

We’re continuing to make updates based on feedback. Read more about the beta in the forum megathread here.

If you’re building on an Agency account, we just added some updates ‌to help you stay organized and grow your agency, including an “at a glance” profile view, more granular admin settings, and resources for lead gen. You can read more about the updates here.

Finally, we’ve heard from plugin developers that you want access to more info about sales, user retention, and churn for your plugins. Sales data reports now show customer IDs so you can track transactions easily. Read more about this update on the forum here.

Everything we’re working on

  • Bubble Assist:

    • We’re launching Bubble Assist, an AI tool that will help you build functional MVPs, in alpha next month. We’re starting by inviting in-person BubbleCon attendees who joined the waitlist.
  • Mobile:

    • Next month, we’re planning to increase the number of beta testers we invite per batch.

    • We’re also addressing beta feedback and adding new features like Android support, along with more native mobile elements (like a selectable list element and an updated datetime picker).

    • We’re beginning work on the React Native mobile plugin editor, starting with foundational user research and project scoping.

  • Flusk:

    • We’re starting to include Flusk features on Bubble pricing plans without requiring a separate Flusk subscription. Features will vary by plan, so stay tuned.

    • The prices of Bubble’s plans aren’t changing.

  • Editor:

    • We’re refreshing the toolbar at the top of the Editor. Thanks again to the research participants who helped with the UI/UX feedback. Stay tuned for more updates!
  • Changelog:

    • As we modernize the editor, we’re picking back up the version control changelog. This will help teams that are building collaboratively view all changes made on a branch — including who made the change and when. Last week we launched a small alpha to start collecting feedback.

ICYMI

  • We just launched the Bubble Store for you to buy Bubble-branded merch. There’s a US and an EU store, which should enable faster shipping. Make sure to check it out.

  • The very first Bubble-built mobile app was published to the Apple App Store! Congratulations to the team at Idea Link on launching Sentio, an AI-powered mood tracker.

  • If your app needs more workload as it scales, you can subscribe to a workload tier ahead of time or pay as you go with overages. Workload overages are billed separately at the end of each calendar month, while workload subscriptions are billed alongside your app plan on your regular billing date. Read more in the manual.

  • Agency partners interested in learning about the benefits of Bubble’s Enterprise plan and revenue share program can RSVP for an upcoming webinar on Thursday, November 7, hosted by our Partnerships and Sales teams.

New reads and resources

  • The latest course on the Bubble YouTube channel from Gregory John is all about design best practices. Check it out here.

  • If you also build with Webflow, take a look at Dorxata, a Webflow agency based in Asia that successfully added Bubble to their tech stack.

  • Bubble is officially part of the Upwork partnership network. If you’re a Bubble-Certified Developer looking to grow your client base, you can learn more here.

  • Congratulations to all the winners of the BubbleCon Community Awards — they’re building some truly impressive apps on Bubble. And if you’d like to learn more about the AI for Change Hackathon winners, you can read our Q&A with them here.

Team news

We had three new people join the team this month! Welcome to:

  • Thibaut, a new staff software engineer

  • Isaac, a new engineering manager

  • Ryan, a new technical product support specialist

We’re also hiring for a number of positions, including several engineering roles. Check out the Careers page if you’re interested.

That’s all for this month!

This is a massive win for plugin devs. Thank you to the team (and to @rutvij.bhise in particular) for shipping it!

Lovely update.

But this one in particular

Super excited about this one!

Been waiting for it for so long!

Thanks

This is all awesome, flusk buyout and improving security knowledge is greatly needed.

However I don’t think there’s anything more important than the recent WU issues, it’s the core pricing of the platform and in just a few weeks apps have been getting overcharged & every month the community discovers a few new bugs or things we are charged for that are completely undocumented.

There was an 18 month grace period and bubble as a platform still can’t even document every thing we are charged for is kind of outrageous. If you’re going to create a proprietary pricing model that requires extensive knowledge of the platform to understand you’ve got to be 110% transparent about where we are billed…

You guys are Ballers! Keep up the great work!!
Thanks,

Crazy stuff @josh - thanks for these updates!

Any news yet on the ability to extend the capabilities by publishing plugins? We’ve got a list of applications to be built for clients at Zeroic and would love to have this

This was a much-needed update and I hope things go upward from here wrt agencies. Would love to have more stats for agency owners going forward

  • A progress tracker indicating how far an agency is from its next tier (revenue, CSAT, projects, certified devs etc)
  • Time spent by devs across applications (these data points will help a lot in terms of scoping and allocating resources + getting an idea of productivity). This is when it’ll make sense to actually pay $80+ for an additional seat, at the moment, there’s not much value for an agency. It’s easier to have devs onboarded as collaborators (most of our work is on existing applications on higher tiers and 1-2 devs work per project which is why it makes sense financially to not have seats, and instead add them directly)
  • Agency profile metrics (views, clicks, highly converting projects)

Looking forward to this one. Next acquisition - Bask? Plugin devs are crying out there lmao

Will this allow us to build Plugins for the react environment @josh

and API Connector… this should be native within the editor and not through a plugin

How many mobile beta testers are you adding each time? I’m pretty sure I signed up very early on, yet I’ve not yet received an invite.

@josh just wondering about the proposed regional hosting you mentioned back when bubble was having their reliability issues.
Is this anywhere near close to being on the roadmap?

I was speaking to one of the engineers and it’s something they can only really do once they finish current platform related work around reliability/performance/tech debt - after that, they can think about stuff like that. Regional hosting is one of my bingo items to be announced at next BubbleCon

Can you guys fix these?

Yay an answer!!! I really can’t wait, we are more and more building for corporate and we’ve had a bunch of no’s solely on data sovereignty

I mean it’s not an answer… it’s just their unofficial thinking. The part about not being able to do it before current platform issues is definitely the case, but whether they want to do regional hosting after that is a different question. Point is, not in the next 6-9 months.

Would this also be possible for template developers?

Completely agreed. Right now there is no reason to have any extra seats. Transparency around tiers is extremely limited.

Interesting. Will this be happening on the editor itself?
Glad to see its not increasing price - hopefully it doesn’t in the future either.
