I wrote this letter this morning and thought I’d ask the community about your thoughts on the speed of the platform as part of the decision-making process as to whether to proceed with bubble or not… please let me know your thoughts
Hi Emmanuel,
I have 2 significant projects that I started on Bubble but stopped because I am worried about the speed issues with the platform. I have done a lot of research and also emailed your team several times and one was the suggestion of a dedicated server, hosted on amazon in Australia (which is a significant expense) and still no guarantees that it will be better.
Both sites are ecommerce applications, one of them is a subscription app that handles thousands of transactions a day - already in running wordpress/woocommerce. We currently have issues with its performance and I’m really concerned that if I spend the next few months building this on bubble that it will be a waste of time if we hit the same performance issues.
What assurances can you give me that the platform is being improved from a performance perspective? Here’s an example of a thread that worries me. Even if someone has built their app a little inefficiently they should be able to scale the resources on the server to support the extra work done (in this case on the database).
Quite honestly I am considering https://wappler.io/ and other alternatives and the only reason is performance. I would love to stay with bubble if I knew that we will never have issues with performance or that it will be improved imminently. When we trust a business like yours to handle the whole backend then we are trusting that you are making the best decisions around the stack and performance of the database but my experience so far, even with very little experience on the platform is that it feels like the back end has some limitations in terms of speed and efficiency. The server / performance credits (or whatever you call them) is a really opaque control and many people report no improvement in performance when paying more for this.
Incidentally wappler is clearly copying the unbelievably well engineered webflow.com for its UI controls, this is something that bubble should closely look at as I am a regular and long-term user of webflow and it is outstanding from a design perspective, even their support videos are works of art - although obviously doesn’t offer the same great functionality of building a sophisticated app like bubble.
Please let me know your thoughts as soon as possible. I will be a very loyal and customer if I feel that issues are being considered or dealt with.
Kind regards
Morgan
