So I have a question I hope someone can help me with.
How does Bubble do the @ indicator to tag someone in forum posts? I would like to use that same idea for another project I’m working on.
It does not, use the plug-in tagger

This forum is run on the Discourse platform and not built in Bubble. I just implemented it on one of my apps hosted using Digital Ocean. If users are interested, I’d be happy to provide a demo of how to set it up. 
But to answer your question, the Tagger Plugin will do the trick if that’s the only function your looking for. It works great with pulling Usernames or emails etc.

Thanks @lantzgould and @AliFarahat! I literally spent hours thinking of workarounds and had no idea this plugin even existed! I’ve already installed it and I’m playing with it now.

This past week I was looking at the possibility of setting up Discourse on Digital Ocean lol. Would love to see a demo!
