This definitely deserves some kudos, FlutterFlow’s Marketplace is actually better than Bubble’s elements and components, you can get an animated navbar to your app in a few clicks, I’d design every particle of this one by one normally.
They also have these ready-made elements, similar to what bubble introduced not long ago but theirs is full of elements like ready to go file uploaders, paywalls etc…
Bubble has been MIA! - without the price increase I’d never known that I’m using an outdated platform lol
I don’t like the name though, FlutterFlow - they need to change this to something better.
Interesting, I’ll check what they’re doing. More over I think bubble io should see what Microsoft did for their license on power pages product. They are charging differently for logged in users and anonymous users, it’s super expensive (and the product is not good) x) but it’s easy to understand and it’s easier to predict the amount you’ll pay depending on your user base.
Tried it and was impressed. Yet I wanted to rely on a sustainable platform to invest my learning time in. Betting 100% of my time on bubble was both clever and stupid it seems.
One of the hardest things is separating the “No-code tools” from the “Low Code Development Platforms” since everyone just says “We’re the most powerful no-code tool”.
Only the latter actually replaces Bubble. The former is still valuable, but it is only for extremely simple ideas that fit into your standard templates, not unique complex products.
Extendability and design freedom are critical, and I’m happy to take a steep learning curve to get them. Hoping DraftBit falls into this category.
Unfortunately, the lesson here is vendor lock in is a significant risk if you are trying to build a real business. If you are playing around or doing a side hustle, then it’s less of an issue.
Part of the assessment it feels like everyone needs to make is - if something drastically changes with the platform in question, can you maintain business operations without significant changes on your part?
Noodl stated in their discord they won’t be building to allow users to code export
WeWeb will allow you on their enterprise plan to export code so you can deploy on your own infrastructure, so that’s a good option
Dittofi is another platform that splits the front end (React) and backend (Go) and allows native support for code exporting.
Xano - it feels like there is significant vendor lock in here and while it is easier to build with, the same situation with bubble could happen with Xano?
