Resources for building a marketplace

Hello there!

First post: so here I go.

I want to build a marketplace on Bubble. Do you guys have any suggestions (resources etc.) to start with?

I saw there is an e-learning at Zeroqode, is it worth following that one or do you have other suggestions for this noobie?

Thanks in advance!

Henny

There are definitely many ways you can build a market place. There are also templates people sell. The best way to learn, is really just to start learning the basic functions of how bubble’s programming language works and build your app the way you want it to be. A template might be good to serve as a guide, but even if you buy the template it isn’t much use unless you can manage it.

The first place I always direct new users is towards Bubble’s own resources:

If you haven’t done them, they are actually very good, and give a solid understanding of the basics of Bubble.

Going on from there, I haven’t personally used many external video tutorials (as I started using Bubble before there were that many around), but judging from the forum, there are a lot of really experienced users who have found brilliant ways to build efficiently and solve different challenges.

So while I can’t recommend any providers or channels directly, I’ll say this: I have burned thousands of hours doing things the wrong way and then correcting them, learning from my own mistakes. So investing some time in getting down some best practice habits can really be worth it to avoid typicaø pitfalls.

I’m sure someone can be more specific in their recommendations, but wanted to mention that.

I have created a marketplace that does selling. renting and buying transactions, so I understand the confusion on where to start.

Advice: Don’t get a template. I used a video called Airbnb Clone from nocodestartup (now owned by Zeroqode). It teaches you how to use Bubble and walks you through fully. I know that Airbnb and marketplaces such as ebay are different but you can mold it to what you are having users sell. It is only $50 a month but you can finish it in a week, but is definitely worth it.

Have a layout of your website FIRST so you do not lose your thought process while using Bubble. Use different color pens to indicate workflow, color, and design.

Look at other sites for design inspiration. Design is equally important as the product. Use Dribble.com, or uplabs or behance to get ideas on how to design it. Also Flat Icon offers free icons for sites and is free.

What type of marketplace?

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your reply!

I decided to follow a paid course, because a template might work, but I really want to learn how to build an app from scratch. I think that’s an useful skill! So I agree with you

I followed the tutorials, first thin I did. But it did not serve me enough to really know where to start.

Thank you for your advice, decided to follow the course though!

Thank you so much for your advice! I decided to start that course, already love it.

I was considering a template, but I think learning how to build a code-free app, step-by-step, is probably much more interestering.

Also thank you for the ideas on design, wil def check it out.

My marketplace will have something to do with linking the right people, but still have to think of a way to make money out of it. What marketplace do you have?

I made an online grocery store for seniors!

It will be very confusing at first! I stared at a blank bubble screen every day for 3 months before it finally clicked. When it does, you’ll open a world of possibilities. Just don’t give up!

No problem, glad I can help. My marketplace allows users to buy, sell and rent their items. Similar to LetGo and Fatllama. The way I started to make money was to take a percentage of the sale. For me I took 10%. This is because of the shipping label costs that I had to cover and the 2.9% that Stripe was given. It was a slow revenue process but with that business model you are dealing with quantity to make up the potenetial loss.
