Slidebar Menu And Subnav

Is there a way to make the slidebar menu somewhat like a tree structure

Item 1
(on click these subitems show)
List Item 1
List Item 2
List Item 3
Item 2
List Item 1
List Item 2
List Item 3

Right now - whenever you click an item in the slidebar menu, it closes, so even if I ahve the condition
“If Item 1 is clicked, change the options to list item 1, 2, 3”, the menu closes and they’d have to click the hamburger again to see the new options.

Any guidance here, or am I just wanting something that’s not possible?
