And another: We should be able to operate the controls (particularly expand/collapse groups) while in the process of adding an element to the tree.
E.g. I go to add a text element, realize I need it in a nested group, click to expand the group, and it adds the text element to the group I clicked to expand. It should instead expand the group and still keep me in the “adding” state until I click not on a control.
This will definitely take some getting used to, mainly because we all have spent countless hours with the old element tree. But overall I like the change.
I do agree with the people saying it should get a bit ‘tighter’; make the indents less pronounced and decrease the space between icons. Deeply nested elements are too indented.
The lock functionality is something i really appreciate. Too many times i accidentally dragged an element on the canvas, and a few times i didn’t notice it happening, causing real issues. I doubt any advanced user uses the drag functionality anyways. Would it be possible to have a functionality which locks all elements, or make them locked by default?
I couldn’t disagree more. I think it’s a dramatic improvement - better spacing, font size, and just more clear.
That’s is a fair point. I think there’s a simple solution though. Currently, if the property editor is not visible, double clicking the element’s icon will open it. What if it also showed the element if it was hidden?
I might be misunderstanding, but you can now drag elements from the sidebar directly to the tree (which wasn’t possible previously), and containers will auto-expand to allow dropping within.
A bit extreme, just spend more time outside and your eyes will adapt just fine
Overall good, just needs some tweaks! I’m sure the team by now is used to posting an overwhelmingly good update and the comments only being the few negatives or ‘now do this next!’.
I think the icons in the tree are something a designer would add, not a UX expert, they are quite annoying, distracting, they add fluff to the tree but no value.
Also the space widthways the tree needs is also something a UX expert wouldn’t do, it’s much slower to find items now and text disappearing - you must have talked about this in the tree meetings.
The lack of contrast is very annoying, also something only a designer would do.
Plus cannot click on an element to open the editor? I actually don’t get how to open the editor from the tree now. I have to click on the canvas?
Hope you make changes to the design based on user feedback and not based on office politics.
Jess
Please make a “Show All” button at the top - Click it, all Layers show (not just expand)
When clicking an overlay, can it automatically show it? I already miss that from the old editor… Have too many popups to just click that little eye icon.
I think it’s nice but agree that space and size are too big.
Auo-reveal is cool. But reveal (right click) doesn’t work anymore (to test, directly right click on element on right side that is not in the actual tree view and you will see that nothing happen if you click on reveal in element tree.
IDEA: Long click in tree view = edit element name. This could be usefull to rename element faster (or right-click with an option to “rename”)
Should make it so CMD + Clicking an element reveals where it is rather than automatic. I don’t want to have to scroll though all my elements over-and-over all the time when I click an element on the canvas. Sure other people would think the same.
Also, I think there is a bit too much padding on the elements, making me open the sidebar much more than I needed before.
