How to use new design template in existing project?

Hey hey!

I built a project using a bubble default template. It works but I don’t like how it looks like. I found another template. I can start a new project using this new template but don’t want to start from scratch. How can I use the new template in I’m my current project?

Hi there, @barsnur… I believe you can copy and paste from the new template into your existing app, but to the best of my knowledge, you will need to create a new project if you want to use the new template in its entirety.

Best…
Mike

That sounds bad to me because I do not want to rewrite the whole project just because of the template. Let’s wait for other people’s answers. I hope there is solution for that!

I was hedging a tiny bit because I didn’t feel like looking it up (which you easily could have done yourself), but my answer is correct per Bubble’s documentation.

Please note that you cannot add a template into an app after the app is created.

You’ll be waiting a long time if you want to hear an answer that’s different from the correct one (which @mikeloc just gave)…

A template is effectively a ‘pre-built app’… (or at least the starting point of one)… so it doesn’t make any sense to be able to ‘apply’ one to an existing app…

As Mike said, the best you can do is to copy aspects of the template into your app, but you’ll have to match the database structure, option sets, styles, plugins, etc. in order for it to work correctly in your app… and there will likely be a lot of ‘issues’ to fix to make everything work…

yeah, true but I want to believe the docs are not up to date. I sent the question to the customer support. I’ll update the tread when I receive the answer

You’ve already received the answer…

Well, that’s certainly one way to go. It’s the wrong way, of course, but it’s still a way.

I wish you the best of luck on your Bubble journey, @barsnur. Based on your first interaction with the community, you are going to need it.

(@keith, here’s one for your scrapbook. Didn’t RTFM… gets directed to TFM… didn’t like what they R’d in TFM… contacts support. Brilliant.)

So the @mikeloc was completely true. It is just not possible which is of course terrible!

@adamhholmes thank you for participating in this conversation :pray:t2:

@mikeloc thank you for the right answer and support

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out. I understand you want to add a template to your existing application.

At this time, templates can be used/installed only at the time of app creation. During the app creation process, you will find a “Start from template” dropdown, where you should be able to select the template that you purchased.

With that said, you need to create a new application to use the template.

well… I’m glad you’ve clarified that for everyone!!..
