Is it normal to find getting started with bubble difficult?

Hey all, anyone have experience going from a no code background to confident in making most website designs with bubble?

I’ve been trying to learn for 7 days now and still have trouble accomplishing the simplest task for a website design.

I’m hoping to get a feel for it before my 2 week trial is up to decide if I want to keep going with this.

Is it too ambitious to expect to get it somewhat down in two weeks? My first project id consider a fairly simple design yet every preview and test I run fails miserably. I’ve managed to correct errors and make progress but at a very slow rate compared to the simplicity of this design.

The website put simply is designed for visitors to upload a name/photo. with a repeating group displaying all the names and photos of previous visitors below. And a progress bar meant to mark every visitor that submits a photo until reaching 10,000. (Ex, 11/10,000 submissions)

I’ve tried using chat gpt here and there for some instruction, this works 50% of the time but maybe it’s more to my detriment

What are other people’s experiences with building their first website on bubble?

I think it’s totally normal! Sometimes what makes Bubble so powerful also make it difficult to learn: so much customization can be overwhelming when getting started.

I like to compare this experience to getting started with Photoshop for the first time: maybe you just want text to go in circles but there are so many options, menus, tools that it feels impossible.

I would recommend that you watch our “Getting Started” videos on our YouTube channel so you can learn step by step how to build apps, and then apply those concepts to the app you are currently trying to build

Maybe try checking out @gregoryjohn’s courses, specifically BeginnersCamp: BeginnersCamp: A comprehensive introduction to Bubble

I can’t really speak on the fully no code background because I did have some, but limited technical knowledge when I first started with Bubble

Typically building a to do list app is a great way to start

I think it depends on your level of technicality. When I started with Bubble, I already knew how web apps are built in code, and so I bought some Bubble course where the guy was building something similar to what I wanted to build.

I’d recommend doing the same - finding a YouTube video series or a course where they are building something similar to what you want to build. I think it crucial that it needs to be a similar thing as otherwise I, personally, wouldn’t be passionate enough to complete the course.

Also, stick with it and don’t be afraid to ask “basic” questions on the forum. We all got to start somewhere and the most valuable learnings happens when we struggle at something, and then it just clicks, and we get it, not when we are just blindly given an answer. It’s important to know why and how (courses) something works vs. just copying it from AI.

Hey @nick.oxley :waving_hand:

It’s totally normal. There is a big learning curve. I started in Bubble, gave up, came back and tried again a few times before it started making sense.

If you want to make progress fast, you can always book a coaching session. To me, that is the fastest way to learn. If you don’t have the funds, then try learning in your style. Everyone is different, so there are a bunch of ways to learn. Here are some examples.

  1. Read over the Bubble Manual if you learn by reading
  2. Watch the intro videos from Bubble if you are a visual learner
  3. Follow along with the build guides, like ChatGPT but fine tuned for Bubble. Better than just using ChatGPT
  4. Try the interactive lessons if you learn by doing, this helped me a lot
  5. One-on-one coaching (Not free) if you need to talk with someone on video and ask questions

I hope that helps. There are many ways to learn, just use the one that is best for your learning style.

Totally normal to feel a little overwhelmed, I think! I second the recommendation of Gregory John’s courses that @johnny posted - I’ve learned a lot there.
