Hi everyone, I’ve been using Bubble for the past few months, build a web app which I use for my language teaching. Bubble has been great in allowing me to build my idea quickly without coding knowledge.
However, if you’re getting started, here is your warning. My experience so far has led me to believe that Bubble should not be used if you have plan on having paying clients interacting with your app.
Here’s why:
Performance. Apps on Bubble are SLOW. Even seemingly simple apps are slow. If your clients have anything but a very high-speed connection, don’t expect it to work properly.
Reliability. I have things work and then all of a sudden stop working for no fault of my own. If it’s with Bubble, you can contact their support team, however, if you are using a plugin that stops working, you are on your own. You can try contacting them but what if they don’t respond? Now you’re completed screwed!
I wish Bubble could do more and be of more use but these performance and reliability issues discourage me from investing more into it.
These are the main two problems coupled with vendor lock to make bubble not a viable full stack solution.
Bubble fanboys will say “well you can develop really easily and at low cost”. The end user does not care about it, they only want a fast app. If you’re building an app with competitors in the same market, then it needs to be fast if not faster than them. Nice uiux only goes so far, if performance is less than competition your market users will go elsewhere.
Thank you for your opinion would you please tell us which plan are you subscribed to? And what plugins have you installed and didn’t work?
Do you think that the support for plugin is bubble responsibility?
It is true that fast and very fast are at everyone’s discretion. I use more than 100 apps on my iphone. When I use my app, it’s as fast as the others. The homepage takes 2-4 seconds the first time, but an hourglass makes people wait. I think that is very acceptable considering the monthly price I pay.
I think it would be a good idea to build an ‘example’ app and offer it to people for testing. I’ll put this in my already loaded todo list.
Us so called ‘Fan boys’ are here to help and would suggest the OP to ask about performance and reliability from the wider community before posting a non-sense ‘hate’ thread where you seem to be the one that always cries. Performance and reliability does not necessarily fall at Bubbles door if an app is poorly made.
The plugin that isn’t working is bdk text editor which I’m paying an extra $5 a month. It stopped working two days ago. I’ve contacted the developer on forums and by email. Nothing so far.
I think there will always be some risk with developer plugins but I think there should be some standards. It’s a bit too much of a ‘Wild West’ right now.
Assumptions or facts ? I believe only what I see !
The same for the plugin that stops working : fact or assumption ? which plugin ?
No matter if your message is about assumptions. Build your MVP (or not) then leave Bubble and build your app with code, if you can. That will avoid wasting CPU for your apps.
I don’t think there is any hate in @leehaber post and certainly not from me, please don’t get it misconstrued. This is your onlu argument…poorly built, it’s kind of rude to shut down someone’s opinion like that.
Not sure why my last post was flagged, I raised valid question.
Try dropping back BDK to the previous version to see if that fixes it. We use it and its working fine on the latest version so it maybe an issue with other installed plugins/clashing.
I doubt you even know how it works from a cursory glance but let’s say you do.
Tell we what’s poorly made then. I did the best I could with what I learned from tutorials and forums. There aren’t any Bubble tutorials and how to optimize performance besides telling you to use custom states where possible.
