Zerocode Page To Pdf : how to send the pdf file generated by email

hey its so weird, it worked then it stopped working and did the long tray again. I will do more testing tomorrow and keep you posted

i will check tomorrow as of now it does it even when i manually click on the button after the whole page is loaded, just generating from the group id

Hello, it does feel like there is an issue with generator.

Unless I missed out on something

here is a picture of the menu of the PDF MANUALLY generated by a button clicked

here is the specs of the pdf generated

and here is the results

this pdf is manually launched thru a button. Can you check ?

otherwise here are spects of the group in debugger mode

I have continued using the pdf and I get a weird behaviour. I put a celing to the repeating group and added 20 pixels on the custom format width and height.

So I noticed a pagebreak that happened because it seemed the group was overflowing on the other page.

Is the width and height of the custom format really its width and height because i am confused the page is still breaking

okay good news - I found out what was an issue.

So the custom format seems to be just a little bit shorter in terms of height than group height. It seems there is a 5 px surplus that creates a page break. By adding + 5 px to the group height m i manage to make it work. Well it seems .

hello, you are truly amazing feedback.

Yet, here is another question - phenomenom I have encoutered.

I am still trying to send the actual PDF file rather than the link.

Phenomenom : when I check my gmail with the link. There is an actual file I can download but with no .ending to it. Yet when I manually add .pdf to the file in my download folder, it becomes a pdf file and his working.

YET, when I append .pdf to the attachement “This convertertoPdf file URL” , it does not work.

Any idea about this phenomenon?

P.S. have you find a way to get to send the actual file in a email ?

Thomas

Hi @usinelachine ,

Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Since you’re working with a URL generated by the plugin and there’s no way to attach the PDF file directly, the issue you’re seeing is likely related to how the email client (like Gmail) handles the link. When Gmail receives a URL to the PDF, it recognizes it as a link but doesn’t automatically treat it as a downloadable file unless the URL ends with “.pdf”.

When you manually add the “.pdf” extension to the URL in your download folder, Gmail recognizes it as a PDF file because you’ve explicitly told it that the file is a PDF. However, appending “.pdf” to the URL in the email doesn’t work because Gmail doesn’t automatically recognize the link as a file you can download—it’s just treating it as a standard URL.

Unfortunately, since the plugin can only generate the URL, there’s no way to send the actual file as an attachment directly. The best workaround in this case is to ensure that the URL provided points directly to the PDF file (with the “.pdf” extension at the end) and advise the recipients to click the link to download the file.

Let me know if that helps or if you have any other questions!

can you give me more details on “The best workaround in this case is to ensure that the URL provided points directly to the PDF file (with the “.pdf” extension at the end) and advise the recipients to click the link to download the file.”

Hey @usinelachine ,

Thanks for your follow-up!

The email is correctly attaching the Bubble file URL as an attachment without the “.pdf” extension, which Gmail recognizes as an actual file attachment. However, when you manually add the “.pdf” extension to the link, it no longer recognizes it as a valid Bubble link, and Gmail treats it differently—essentially, it’s no longer being treated as a downloadable attachment.

Unfortunately, the reason adding “.pdf” to the URL breaks the attachment process is that Gmail doesn’t recognize this modified URL as a valid link to the Bubble file. It expects the original Bubble URL format (without the “.pdf” extension) to be associated with the file attachment.

As for the best workaround, since Bubble only generates a link to the file and doesn’t directly attach the file, the link sent in the email is being treated as a URL rather than an attachment when you modify it. The best way to handle this is to send the straight Bubble URL without adding “.pdf” to the end of it in the email. The recipients will then be able to download the file as expected when they click the link.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to send the actual file as an attachment directly through the plugin right now. This is a limitation of how the plugin works, and we’re aware of it. We’ll be sure to pass along this feedback for future improvements.

In the meantime, please stick with sending the original Bubble URL without any modifications to ensure that Gmail treats it as an attachment.

Let me know if this clears things up.

thanks for your reply. I really hope this feature happens in the future as it would be the perfect tool to send any automated pdf.
